Beskrivning

“Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses of Junior Doctors yearning to breathe free.”

NHS to the US (also known as "How To Make It In America" from previous iterations) offers a step-by-step guide through the entire process of transitioning from medical school/ junior doctor training in the UK to Residency training in the United States. Don't miss the chance to attend this annual course and start planning your journey this September.

LibertyMedics has built a reputation as the authoritative voice in UK to US medical career transitions, providing course attendees with reliable, up-to-date and unbiased information on the ENTIRE process from A to Z. Whilst certain other courses charge £500-£1000 simply to advise people regarding the Step 1 USMLE exam, we provide a start to finish, full day, weekend course in which we make clear each and every aspect of the move.

We aim for full transparency in all that we do and are proud that previous attendees have had such universally positive experiences at our events. We encourage you to get an idea of what you can expect at our course from reading the detailed event description below, as well as checking LibertyMedics Facebook reviews and watching the highlight reel from our past events below. Whether you are someone who is on the fence about the idea of moving to the US in the future and need a hand making that decision, or whether you are entirely convinced it is what you want to do and you need to learn the nitty gritty of the exam/application process - this course will give you exhaustive information and leave you satisfied.

INTRODUCTION:
Have you been considering alternatives to the medical training pathway in the UK? You’re not the only one. Even prior to the last few years, many medical students and junior doctors had considered whether or not transitioning their medical career to another country was the right move for them. Now, in this era of unprecedented poor treatment of medical professionals in the NHS, there is a growing tidal wave of medics wanting more information on this process. In this full day course, Dr. Usama Syed, a graduate from Imperial College London (2016), will talk through each and every aspect of making this transition.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Dr. Syed was offered an Academic Foundation Program position at St Thomas’ Hospital in London upon graduation in 2016, but decided to turn this down in pursuit of American residency training. Having applied for residency in the application cycle that concluded in March 2017, Dr. Syed’s experiences and advice are entirely relevant and up-to-date, with yearly edits made to course content based on the latest match cycle (now 2017 - 2018) and real life applicant information.

CREDENTIALS:
• Step 1 score: 262
• Step 2 CK score: 264
• Step 2 CS: passed at first attempt (no score)
Successfully matched at Mount Sinai Hospital's Dermatology Residency Program in Manhattan, New York

Dermatology is one of the most competitive specialties to match into in the United States, so Dr. Syed’s successfully implemented advice will provide the best possible foundation for any interested applicant to match, regardless of their chosen specialty!

WHAT IS COVERED IN THE COURSE?
Below are some of the questions that will be answered in the full day course:

• What are the pros and cons of a medical career in the United States compared to the United Kingdom?

• What made you decide to turn down an AFP for F1? What are the long-term ramifications of leaving without completing F1?

When should I have made a decision about whether or not I want to move to the US?

• What is ECFMG? How do I register? How long does this take?

• What is NRMP and what is ‘The Match’?

• How many Step exams are there and what topics are covered in each one?

When is the best time to sit the Step 1 exam during my medical education here in the UK? What is a good Step 1 score? How long do I need to study for it? What are the resources you used, and how best should I use them?

• What is the difference between the Step 2 CS and Step 2 CK? What is a good score for these? How do I prepare for them? How long should I leave for that?

• What is the Step 3 exam? When do I need to take this?

Do I need to do a U.S. elective? Where are the best places to do an elective? What is the difference between clinical electives, subinternships and observerships? Are some better than others?

• What are letters of recommendation? How many do I need? Can I get them from doctors here in the UK?

• How much does the whole application, from start to finish, cost?

• How many different specialties can I apply for? What are the realistic chances of an ‘International Medical Graduate’ successfully getting the different specialties?

• How does ‘the Match’ work?

• What were your interview experiences like? Should I send additional emails to programs outside of my normal ERAS application?

• What are the visa related difficulties when it comes to moving to the United States? What are the different types? What are the pros and cons of each type? What are the U.S. consulate visa interviews like? How can I get a green card later down the line?

By the end of this course, you will have authoritative and detailed answers to all of these questions from a doctor who has just successfully finished going through this entire process. There is no other course like this available in the U.K. Other organisations offer seminars for hundreds of pounds on simply one Step exam! 'How To Make It In America' has had 3 previous runs, each of which SOLD OUT in 2017, and has received an average 4.9 rating out of 5 from 40 attendee reviews on Facebook.
