ECM recording artist Iain Ballamy is an internationally recognised saxophonist and composer who has been variously described as urbane, original, freethinking and uncompromising.

Listed in the BBC’s publication ‘100 Jazz Greats’ between Count Basie and Chet Baker, Ballamy’s work is contemporary with both strong jazz and classical references and yet un-encumbered by formality and tradition.

Over three decades spent transcending musical genres and stereotypes and by forging strong and ongoing relationships with musicians around the globe, Ballamy has worked with many cutting-edge figures of today’s contemporary Jazz scene.

Ballamy was presented with the BBC Jazz Award for Innovation in 2001.

He first met our resident Musical Director Jamie Safir whilst recording in trio format with Ian Shaw in 2018 - but tonight the pair will perform as a duo for the very first time, exploring some of Ian’s stunning original compositions alongside selections from the Great American Songbook including ‘Come Sunday’, ‘Mad About The Boy & ‘Some Other Time’. 

Highlights of a career spanning over 30 years include playing with Loose Tubes, Bill Bruford’s Earthworks, Hermeto Pascoal, Django Bates, Kenny Werner, Gil Evans, George Coleman, The Karnataka College of Percussion, John Taylor, Ian Shaw, Claire Martin, The Britten Sinfonia, Gay Dad, Everything but the Girl, Guy Chambers, Mike Gibbs, Carla Bley, John Dankworth etc.

Within the London Jazz Scene, Jamie has an ongoing collaboration with award-winning vocalist Ian Shaw as well as having worked with Will Young, Liane Carroll, Natalie Williams, Stan Sulzman, Iain Ballamy, Barb Jungr and the Ronnie Scott’s All Stars.
Jamie is currently Musical Director for Patti Boulaye and working on ‘The Sweetest Sounds of Rogers and Hart’ featuring Claire Moore & Robert Meadmore.

The Club is not licensed to allow access to Children under the age of 16 after 9pm, so for evening performances, please do not book tickets for children under the age of 16. Children aged 16 and above are welcome at any time.

Seats are not numbered and you will be seated at available tables. Please note tables seat 4 people, so for bookings of less than 4 people, you will be seated and share a table for 4.

For £15.00 Tickets:

This is a fully seated event.  Seats are not numbered and will be allocated on a first come first serve basis.
