St John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital Group have been leading the fight against blindness in the Holy Land since 1882, when we were established in Jerusalem at the bequest of Queen Victoria. Little has changed in the 136 years since our establishment – preventable eye conditions continue to be a scourge on the local population. This is made evident by the fact that you are ten times more likely to have sight issues in Palestine than you are in the United Kingdom or elsewhere in the West.

Today we act as the leading eye care provider in the region. We strive to provide expert eye care to all – regardless of ethnicity, religion, social class or ability to pay, notwithstanding the difficult political climate in which we operate.

Our fundraising Gala Dinner at Guildhall on June 26th 2018, in the presence of HRH the Duke of Gloucester and our Patron Lord Vestey, is an opportunity to celebrate the work of all our staff, partners, volunteers and supporters across the globe who are working to end preventable blindness in the Holy Land.

Expect a keynote speech with Her Majesty Queen Noor of Jordan GCStJ, and a project auction with politician and author, Jeffrey Archer a Reception, three-course meal, and other ways of supporting the hospital on the night.

We are an incredible force when working together, and in 2017 we managed to treat over 135,000 patients and deliver nearly 5,000 major surgeries.

Our last major fundraiser at Mansion House in 2014 raised an incredible £600,000 which went towards:

• training a genetic research doctor who has gone on to head up our essential research into hereditary eye disease across Palestine;

• funding our Jerusalem operating theatre team for 1 year (who perform over 3,500 major operations per annum);

• funding one of our mobile outreach teams for a year (who provide essential access to eye care for over 9,200 patients per annum);

• And several other core costs which ensured the running of our services.

We are hoping our Guildhall Event will be just as successful and enable us to continue our vital work in the region.
