Description

Celebrating our namesake, Nicholas Culpeper and his work as a horticulturalist, we’re hosting a monthly workshop to admire and document the edible flowers and produce that’s grown in our very own rooftop garden.

Hosted by a different artist each month, guests will get a crash course in botanical drawing by working from table populated by numerous living botanicals; such as terrariums, ferns, flowers, and edible plants. All greenery is thanks to our friends over at London Terrariums.

Kicking us off is talented artist Katie Scott. Katie has a broad range of experience, producing work for the likes of Nike, New York Times, Urban Outfitters, Wallpaper* and Converse. More recently she illustrated a book called Botanicum in collaboration with Kew Gardens, which celebrates the plant world with over 100 full-colour illustrations.

The morning will begin with an introduction to the table by London Terrariums, and the art of drawing by Katie Scott. Guests will then be encouraged to get to know the table and choose what they’d like to drawn and decide which angle they’d like to approach the table from. This is intrinsic of Katie’s process, getting close to the subject and finding interesting way to document it, by cutting it open, flipping it over, and changing perspective.

Throughout the 2.5-hour workshop, guests will rotate around the table to get a full 360-degree view of the centrepiece with Katie on hand to help guide along the way.

Once you’ve finished your masterpieces you’ll then have the chance to enter your favourite piece from the day in a competition to be on the walls of The Culpeper.

To finish off the session you will enjoy a two-course lunch incorporating the edible produce from the centrepiece, before joining the rest of the public outside on the roof terrace for some great views.
