Bach – Sleepers wake (Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme) BWV 140 Whitley – I am, I say for children’s choir and orchestra to words by Sabrina Mahfouz Handel – Piangero from Guilio Cesare
with soprano Sarah-Jane Lewis and bass Ashley Riches
with a choir from Kender and John Donne primary schools.
For a programme spanning Bach’s chorale Sleepers Wake written in 1731 to I am I say by composer Kate Whitley and poet Sabrina Mahfouz written last year, The Multi-Story Orchestra will be joined by a choir of children from local primary schools. Multi-Story’s previous performances of Kate Whitley’s works for children’s choir and orchestra have been hailed by The Telegraph as ‘moving, and beautifully performed’ and listed in their ‘five best classical music moments of 2015’.
Please note that the entrance to Bold Tendencies has changed this year, so we’ve provided instructions to help below. The performance is taking place on Levels 7/8 of Peckham Car Park, SE15 5HQ. See http://boldtendencies.com/#visit for a map.
Access Bold Tendencies by foot:
Exit out of Peckham Rye station and continue straight ahead through the tunnel with Jenny’s Cafe on your right. Turn left and cross over Rye Lane, continuing straight towards Peckhamplex Cinema, passing Santander on your right. Take the staircase directly next to the cinema on the right to enter Bold Tendencies. There may be a queue for Bold Tendencies but you can pass this with your ticket(s) for the concert. Continue up the staircase until you come out onto the roof of the car park. From the roof, veer diagonally right until you see a ramp which takes you down to concert levels 7/8.
There will no longer be parking available on levels 0-10, however there is very limited Pay and Display on level -01. We strongly advise that you do not arrive by car where possible but if necessary, see Southwark Council’s website for more information on local parking options.
