This is our first Learning Hub for Church based Youth Workers, volunteers and paid, in 2017. This session is being delivered by Romance Academy (www.romanceacademy.org.) who are hosting their workshop entitled 'Let's Talk about Porn.'
Our young people are fully immersed in a digital world. From Instagram to snapchat and whatsapp, it can seem like our young people are constantly connected to their phones and speaking a language that we can't even begin to understand.
Recent statistics show that 1 in 3* ten year olds have seen pornography online; 81%* of 14-16 year olds regularly access explicit photographs and footage on their home computers.
It's easy in this context to feel completely out of our depth and panic. But don't fear! This seminar is designed to give practical tips and information to help you engage healthily with your kids in their online world.
This seminar is for parents, youth workers, teachers & church leaders who aren’t sure where to start but want to approach the topic from a values based perspective... without freaking themselves or their young people out!
As usual, we will be starting the evening with a sandwich and cake buffet from 6.30pm. The session will run from 7-9.15pm with a coffee break half way through, with the Romance Academy staff being around until 9.30pm to answer any questions.
This event is free for Church based youth workers due to a generous grant from the Jerusalum Trust. (You'll notice, however, that we've introduced a 'Donation' ticket for when you book in for this event. There is no obligation to make a donation when you book in - we want you with us first and foremost - but if you feel you can make a donation to enable us to run more sessions in the future that would be greatly appreciated. Sadly you can't gift-aid your donation through this website, but if you pay tax in the UK and would like to gift aid your donation, you can do so by going to www.give.net and search for 'YMCA White Rose.')
For teachers and others who work with young people outside of a Church context, there is a £10 charge for the event which includes tea, coffee and the buffet alongside the training. We are happy to provide yourself or your school with a invoice if that is more practical than booking through the site.
