Description
Curious about writing stand-up comedy, or fine-tuning your set to take out into the world and gig? This workshop is built on a series of practical prompts and writing exercises to build a tight five-minute routine, shake up your joke-writing, and make the material uniquely yours - whether you're completely new to stand-up, or a seasoned performer looking for a refresher after a lockdown slump.
We'll be working on:
• Templates and structure for a five-minute routine.
• Joke-writing techniques.
• Audience interaction.
• Personalising your material, in both writing and performance.
This workshop is focussed on stand-up and designed to equip you will practical skills for that particular medium, but these writing techniques apply to writing for sitcom, theatre, or to performers exploring how to make their work funnier. If you're a writer/performer curious to explore a completely different medium, or spend a fun afternoon shaking out the creative cobwebs, come along! All levels of experience warmly welcome.
This workshop takes place on Zoom, between 2-4pm, and spaces are limited to 12 total so all participants have a quality experience. If you have any concerns about accessibility or considerations that would improve your workshop experience, don't hesitate to email Siân on omnisianbles@gmail.com . Ticket sales end at midday on the date of the workshop.
Siân Docksey is a BBC New Comedy Award-nominated stand-up comic, writer and performer, featured in The Telegraph's Funniest One-Liners of the Edinburgh Fringe, in the Guardian, and in the Daily Mail's worst recurring nightmares (probably.) She has taken two solo shows and numerous sketch comedy shows to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and written for film, podcasts and radio. Previous praise includes:
★★★★ "Joy and bewilderment in equal measure" - The Skinny
