Writing for Wellbeing Monthly Workshops - Resilience

Mar 15 2017 19:30 - Jun 01 2017 13:00

Mycenae House, 90 Mycenae Rd, SE3 7SE London

Read Write Express is offering a series of monthly Writing for Wellbeing evening workshops around the theme of resilience. The workshops will provide a supportive space where, through reading, discussion, writing, sharing and listening, participants will use a variety of approaches to look at their lives, as well as considering ways of dealing with stress and managing roles, responsibilities and to-do lists with the aim of developing perspective, self awareness and coping mechanisms.

The workshops provide a nurturing and supportive space to experience different writing and other fun, releasing and relaxing exercises to help participants stimulate their creativity and encourage self-awareness.

Writing is optionally shared with the group and participants are encouraged to respond from their own experience of hearing it as oppose to offering a critique. This is the difference between writing for self development and creative writing for literary development. Writing and voicing writing in this way can be therapeutic but these workshops are not group therapy and participants need to be aware of this when choosing what to write or share.

The workshops may also include other non-writing activities such as light movement, breathing, visualisation, voicework, pairwork, laughter and drama games.

No writing experience necessary, just a willingness to explore and experiment.

Classes held monthly. Check website for more info.

Mycenae House is close to Westcombe Park station with buses nearby.

Narayani Guibarra has a creative writing BA from Birkbeck University where she specialised in poetry and is currently studying on a Msc in creative writing for therapeutic purposes at the Metanoia Institute. She enjoys the synergy between art and poetry and collaborates with artists to create poems from art and art from poems. She has long held an interest in writing for wellbeing and is a trained yoga teacher, sound healer, laughter facilitator and cognitive hypnotherapist & NLP practitioner. She has facilitated classes, workshops, retreats and holidays in yoga and sound for many years and now wishes to utilise this experience to help participants access their creative voice for self discovery.
