Description
Most artists use their own lives as inspiration - from everyday details everyone can relate to, to completely unique personal experiences. So, where do you get started? And how do you know which parts are right for you and your work?
This workshop will equip participants with a practical toolkit to develop material from life into exciting new writing or performances. If you're an experienced writer exploring personal territory and feeling stuck, or if you're completely new to writing and just curious, this is for you.
Siân Docksey is a scriptwriter and stand-up comedian who reaches into all areas of her own experiences for stand-up bits, film scripts, sketches and more. Through over a decade of trial and error, she’s learned how to identify the really juicy parts, and polish them into funny, poignant and surprising performances. Siân specialises in giving personal or political topics a surrealist twist so they become fun, entertaining and accessible for audiences. Her insights and practical tips from this process apply to creatives in a broad range of styles and mediums.
Participants will be welcomed with a short introductory presentation, then guided through a series of prompts and exercises, individually and in small groups. You will leave the workshop equipped with a toolkit to start writing about what really excites you, and be brave about sharing personal experiences safely and creatively. From complete beginners to seasoned writers looking for a refresh, poets, comedians, novelists, screenwriters, lyricists, theatre writers and creatives from every discipline are warmly invited to join and take your skills up a notch.
Please note that the size of this workshop is limited to 12 participants for a quality and personalised experience, and ticket sales end at noon on 17/04/2021.
