Description
Whether you’re a writer looking to create a children’s picture book, an illustrator who would like to tell a story through images, or an artist who can cover all bases, this talk will teach you the key elements of picture books, how to create imaginative fiction, and how to come up with great ideas. Join author and award-winning children's bookshop owner Tamara Macfarlane and the renowned Sunday Times children's books reviewer Nicolette Jones as they discuss:
- How to come up with ideas
- Classic themes and key elements
- Finding the right balance between images and words
- Knowing your audience
Tamara Macfarlane combines writing with owning and running Tales on Moon Lane Children's Bookshop, twice winner of the Children's Independent Bookshop of the Year. TOML was voted one of London’s top five bookshops. Now in it’s eleventh year, the shop continues to run a large number of events and festivals.
Nicolette Jones has been the children’s books reviewer of the Sunday Times for more than two decades, and has been a judge of, among other picturebook prizes, the Macmillan Prize for Illustration, the Roald Dahl Funny Prize, the Independent Booksellers Week Award, and, this year, the Klaus Flugge Award, and the Lollies (including a picturebook category). She was nominated in 2012 for the Eleanor Farjeon Award for services to children’s books.
