Description
An uplifting song-learning workshop for all, held in the beautiful natural surroundings of Whittle Dene woodland. The workshop will be directed by musician Beccy Owen, and is taking place in collaboration with The Woodland Trust.
Brimming with songs appropriate to a nature-filled, outdoor setting, this will be a fun and informal workshop followed by an optional group 'sharing/performance' with the trees as our audience.
You do not need to have any previous singing experience and all are welcome to join in - whatever you age, gender, background, or perceived musical ability!
A wet weather plan will also be in place so please don't be put off if it's raining on the day - we will still have a blast!
**Please note that there is no parking directly on site and the meeting point, Whittle Mill ruins, is a 20 minute walk from Prudhoe train station or 15 minute walk from the villages of Ovingham & Ovington. The walk is through woodland terrain where the ground is uneven in places and can be muddy. Please contact us if you are concerned mobility or access might be an issue for you. Sturdy shoes or walking boots are required.
About Beccy
Beccy has been facilitating group singing for over two decades, having trained as a Community Musician as part of the Sage Gateshead's Apprenticeship and with the Guildhall School of Music and Drama's IGNITE! programme.
A great deal of her work has involved encouraging people to explore, accept and work with their own singing voice - and how to surpass their own expectations and limiting beliefs. Read more about Beccy's Pop Up Choirs initiative here.
Beccy was previously a long-term director of Ilkley Moornotes Community Choir and Sing Meanwood Community Choir.
As a performer and creative collaborator, she has worked in collaboration with various world class musicians, such as Nitin Sawhney, Maximo Park, Kate Rusby and Bellowhead as well as delivering a variety of cutting edge singing & songwriting programs for the likes of Guildhall School of Music & Drama, University of Sunderland, Sage Gateshead, Vocal Force, Bradford Literacy Hub and Sing Up.
What people have said about attending Beccy's workshops

I come out of each session laughing and full of energy and that feeling continues through the week. Have a go ..."
"I have met some great friends, experienced singing in harmony with people I have not met before. Enjoyed the whole fun, relaxed and even informative learning of singing. Amazing experience."
