Description
We kick off October with Martin Lunn FRAS who is known as the "Rambling Astronomer" and his talk "Astronomy Before the Telescope."
Martin studied for his degree in Astrophysics whilst working for British Rail in the 1970's. From 1989 until 2011 he was the Curator of Astronomy at the Yorkshire Museum in York, and in 1998 was presented with an MBE for services to astronomy and education.
Martin is also a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society and currently sits on the council. He presents lectures on cruise ships all over the world, and to various clubs and societies at home.
The talk chosen was voted by the WMA Committee and sounds really interesting.....here is the overview...we hope you can join us!
We are used to hearing of fantastic discoveries made by astronomers using powerful telescopes. However, astronomers around the world were studying the night sky for thousands of years before telescopes were invented. Using very simple equipment they made many fantastic discoveries, and some things they got very wrong. This is their story.
