Description
After the inaugural Whisky 101 in October 2015, The Gallery in West Hampstead will kick off 2016 with Whisky 101: Burn’s NightTour of Scottish Whisky on Monday 25th January. Whisky 101 is designed to be an informative, interactive and entertaining tasting workshop which experiments pairing whiskies, beer and food. In honour of Burn’s Night, the opening event of the series will possess a distinctly Scottish cadence.
The evening will be hosted by The Gallery’s Bar Manager and resident beer and whisky enthusiast, Daniel Pavey. Daniel will lead guests on a single malt-based exploration of Scotland, illuminating different drams that best encapsulate the flavours of each unique origin. The journey will delve into the bronze fruitiness of the Lowland Auchentoshan Three Wood Whisky, through Speyside’s full-bodied Glenfarclas 15 Yr Old to the intricate tones of Highland Dalmore 12 Yr Old.Guests will then be transported to the rugged Isle of Skye with the wild smokiness of Talisker 10 Yr Old and out to the peaty Islay with Caol Ila 12 Yr Old whisky. These whiskies will be complemented by samples of three Scottish beers rounded off with the Burn’s Night staple: a serving of haggis.
Throughout the evening Daniel will be offering knowledge on the history, production and style of Scottish Single Malt, and how the unique flavours stem from the regions in which they are distilled.Guests will be invited to put their noses and palates to the test and encouraged to record their tasting notes on specially created flavour profile cards.
Ranging from local craft beers, to unusual brews and wheat beers, the boilermakers for the evening have been carefully chosen by Daniel. Whisky and beer begin production with the same three basic ingredients – water, barley and yeast, which is perhaps why they are the perfect pairing. Daniel will be suggesting interesting and unique couplings to balance and enhance the flavours and aromatics of these old booze brothers.
Tickets will include five flights of whisky, three samples of beer and a serve of haggis. The Gallery have also devised a selection of cocktails especially for the night based on the whiskies highlighted, which will be available to purchase at the end of the session.
Tickets: £25
– 10% of sales will be donated to UK charity Centre Point
