    Description

    WHAT MAKES A MAN?

Join Short Sighted Cinema for a screening of short films asking the question 'WHAT MAKES A MAN?', in recognition of International Men's Day. From boys to men, insiders to outsiders, thinkers to fighters, masculinity is open to exploration in this programme that delves into the many facets of living and identifying as male. Followed on by a debate and open discussion with our specially invited guest speakers.

HARD TO LOSE - Manfredi Mancuso, Louise Cooke and Cristof Hackl
Nero is a loner, trapped in a miserable life. Everything might change when he meets Laura. However, in his world there’s not room for love and he will need to struggle to keep his feelings alive.

I MAY BE SOME TIME - Ana Stefaniak
A short animated film about an old, grumpy man, Lawrence, who is forced on a journey to confront his inner self. Throughout the journey he grows younger and in the end of the film he is just a child.

    KID - Good Boy Wolf

THROW ME TO THE DOGS - Aaron Dunleavy
A troubled teenage boy, growing up in a dreamless wilderness and isolated from those around him, is stripped of his dignity as his father abandons him for the outside world which he is trying to retreat from.

TOBY - Jonathan Schey, Luke Barnes & Jodie Brown
Toby’s 25. He lives at home with his mum and works down the road at the local supermarket. He’s had the same job since he was a teenager, only the customers still don’t notice him. No one ever does. But Toby’s decided to do something – and tonight, everything could change…

PUTTING ON THE DISH - Brian Fairbairn and Karl Eccleston
London, 1962. Two strangers strike up a conversation on a park bench about life, love, sex and the hostile world they find themselves in as gay men. The topics might be commonplace, but the language isn't, because the two men are speaking in Polari - a mostly extinct form of gay slang used in Britain in the first half of the 20th century.
