Feet First: A Weekend Workshop on Trimming Beautiful Bases
Date: 13th & 14th September 2025 (Sat & Sun)
Time: 10am-2.30pm (with a half hour lunchbreak included)
Location: Charlotte Manser Ceramics, South Fawley, OX12 9NL, farm
Level: Improver- some expereince of throwing recommended
Tutor: Chiara
Firing included: Bisque + glaze in studio white or transparent (up to 3 pots)

In this focused two-day workshop, we’ll explore the art of trimming elegant, functional feet into your pots. Whether you’re looking to refine your finishing skills or learn to trim for the first time, this weekend will give you the knowledge and confidence to take your pots to the next level.
What to Expect:
Day 1 – Throwing with Feet in Mind

Introduction to foot styles and what makes a well-proportioned base

Diagrams and visual references to help plan your forms

Guidance on how much clay to leave in the base for trimming

Throwing test pots specifically with trimming in mind
Day 2 – Trimming Techniques & Execution

Demonstration of trimming tools and techniques

How to trim different types of feet: raised, inset, and more

One-on-one coaching as you trim your leather-hard test pots

Tips for clean lines, tool control, and avoiding common mistakes
All students can select up to 3 pots to be bisque fired and glazed in our clean, classic studio white or transparent. Finished pots can be collected at a later date or posted.

- Please bring your own packed lunch.
- We have cutlery and crockery at the pottery, as well as a microwave and toaster.
- We will take a half hour break for lunch.
Spaces are limited to ensure plenty of individual guidance, so early booking is recommended. Please note tickets will only be refunded if cancellation notice is given at least 2 weeks before the course commences.
Whether you want to finesse your finish or just finally understand trimming, Feet First will give you a strong foundation.
