Description
“Ways of Sensing” is part of the “Making It Real” festival at Ugly Duck which explores the intersection of analogue and digital technologies. This exhibition explores the combined creative possibilities when analogue technologies and digital technologies are used together.
On Friday 6th October at 6pm, we will hear from Lewis Bush and Levin Haegele who have used spectrographic, infrared and satellite technologies to explore different “ways of sensing”.
Lewis Bush is a British photographer, writer and curator interested in power and the structures that create and contest it. Through this interest, he also engages with questions about how to document and explain issues which are complex, abstract, or otherwise defy traditional methods of visual representation. In making this work, Lewis aims to make audiences aware of the larger forces which shape their lives and the ways that they might challenge or counter-act these things.
Levin Haegele works as an artist and freelance production specialist. He has worked with numerous artists to realise projects such as computer-controlled interactive sculpture, photographic imaging, video and post-production, and publishing. As an artist, he has exhibited internationally at galleries such as the Whitechapel, London, Mercer Union, Toronto, Truck, Calgary, and Chelsea Space, London. Levin has been a lecturer at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, University of Brighton, Southampton Solent, and has given talks at the University of Calgary and the Ruskin. He currently teaches photography and video at the Art Academy. From material research to production techniques, Levin is well-versed in solving problems and understanding the needs of artists. Levin Haegele is the Art Production Mentor at SPACE studios, mentoring artists on problem solving in artistic production, innovative technologies, specialist production methods, website optimisation, online platforms, and networks and networking.
