    Description

This short one woman play brings to life the harrowing stories of women, including girls as young as 12, held in the 'care' of the nuns in Ireland's notorious Magdalene Laundries. These were funded by the Irish State and run by the Church.

It is the stuff of nightmares and only ceased in 1996. On the 19th of February 2013 the Irish Taoiseach Enda Kenny apologised to the women who were incarcerated in Ireland’s Magdalene Laundries.

‘The harrowing physical and psychological abuse they endured there, led to a lifetime of hurt, loneliness, shame and secrecy-but finally the world knew what they had suffered’. Steven O’Riordan co-author of Whispering Hope (First published 2015).

Ceara Dorman is an Irish student studying in Falmouth University in Cornwall. She is in the final year of the Contemporary Drama and Cinematics acting course. As part of her degree, Ceara has created a one-man play called ‘Unveiled’ which is based on The Magdalene Laundries.
