Description

U OK HUN? is a dance event designed to give us all an energy boost as well as a place to talk openly about our mental health whilst raising money and awareness for a brilliant cause.

It's time we asked ourselves; 'U OK HUN?' NO DANCE EXPERIENCE NECESSARY!

13:15 Arrive

13:30 East London on-demand therapy service The Self Space will discuss the importance of embracing that 'it's ok not to be ok'  and 'what self care really means'

14:00 Celebrity dance and fitness instructor Faye Edwards will take you through a 2 hour F.I.T. Jam dance masterclass where fun, energy and empowerment meet. In Faye's own words, 'F.I.T. JAM is a dance concept where you dance like everyone's watching and you just don't give a damn!'

All profits will be donated to recently founded mental health initiative Beyond Shame Beyond Stigmaled by mental health campaigner Jonny Benjamin MBE.

Brand partners (yes, we're talking goodie bags and raffle prizes of course!) include SpaceMasks, Frame, Bio Sculpture, Gympass, SkinnyDip London, The Self SpaceBloom & Blossom, CanO Water, PropercornFranks Bars, Susan Caplan Jewellery, Peach & SmithMyZone

A bit about:

The Self Space:

Our vision is to revolutionise the culture around accessing mental health support, making it more commonplace and aspirational. We're based in Shoreditch and we provide flexible, forward thinking therapy which focuses on supporting people to maintain good mental health and ultimately reach their potential.

Faye Edwards:

Faye Edwards offers an array of fitness programmes and events that promote fitness, health, well being, fun and empowerment. Her F.I.T Jam concept is an interactive 2 hour dance movement class open and welcome to all levels especially beginners. It’s all about the fun factor and letting go, a room with no judgement and just positive energy. There’s no such thing as a wrong move so just go with the flow and enjoy to the fullest.

Your host:

I'm Louisa; mum to Theo (2years old) and wife to Dominic. I've lived in London for the last 12 years. I'm Scottish (I like to drop that in wherever possible!) and have suffered depression and anxiety for as long as I can remember. I've had some pretty epic lows and finally feel in a comfortable place with it - I know who I am, I know my needs and I'm not afraid to tell you them. I passionately believe that, while society has come on leaps and bounds recently, there is so much more we can do to make sure that everyone single person feels comfortable to tell you if they don't feel okay mentally. I've always wanted to put an event on to promote this message and when I met Faye Edwards I knew she had to be involved. Dancing has always been an additional therapy for me and when I first went to one of her F.I.T Jam classes it was like a light had gone off in my head. Music has the power to free us from our thoughts and she teaches dance in a way that empowers you to embrace a judgment-free space.

One of the things that helped me break my depression/ anxiety cycle was finding the right therapist. The Self Space have made therapy accessible with their digital approach so I knew they were the right partner to talk us through, from their professional perspective, how we can help ourselves and society reach a point where there is no stigma to say 'I'm not ok'.

I really hope you'll come, have fun and leave with a valuable experience and new like-minded friends.
