Description

TUVABAND (NO)

Tuvaband is the wildly eclectic mindchild of the fearless Norwegian songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer Tuva Hellum Marschhäuser. Tuva’s intrepid artistry has garnered favorable comparisons to Kate Bush, Cocteau Twins, David Lynch and CocoRosie, her arrangements exude a dream-pop mystique, easing from delicate, piano-led folk, softly soaring post-rock to darker, heavier atmospheric rock with a fluorescent shoegaze aesthetic. Floating over these carefully-composed songs and densely textured soundscapes are Tuva’s fluttery vocals which manage to be both visceral and vulnerable.

Tuva is a critically-acclaimed artist with an impressive international profile. With a marked change in direction mirrored by changes in Tuva’s personal life (a move to Berlin to Oslo) Tuva’s second album I Entered the Void harnessed more weight and muscle than her debut Soft Drop, earning her a 2019 Norwegian Grammy nomination in the Indie category.

Tuva’s third album ‘Growing Pains & Pleasures’ was painstakingly spearheaded by Tuva from inception to completion determined to capture the musical vision in her imagination. Crafted in her then new studio, the songs and soundscapes were forged over many months working alone, recording and programming the instrumentation herself before enlisting fellow Oslo musicians Kenneth Ishak (drums), Eskild (bass) and Håkon Brunborg Kjenstad (viola/synth) to add depth and realism to some of the sketched lines. ‘Growing Pains & Pleasures’ is a triumph of Tuva’s full-bloom artistry, the song “Irreversible” was remixed by beloved dub icon Lee "Scratch" Perry.

With the release of a third album and consequent live shows Tuva called upon four musicians in the shape of Dorothea Økland (Nothing Personal/Hey Love/Klossmajor), Linn Frøkedal (Misty Coast/The Megaphonic Thrift), Andrea Barsnes Undset (Mokri) and long-time collaborator Håkon Brunborg Kjenstad (Caramel 11/Magic Mirror/Clowder) to hit the road. No one is here just to make up the numbers, this lineup forms a formidable unit which expertly delivers Tuva’s material with purpose and power.

Tuvaband’s latest album, New Orders, out January 2023 —her fourth overall— is a bold exploration of the many facets of her creativity. As a pure transmission of Tuva’s full-bloom artistry these recordings mark the first time Tuva undertook everything herself. Tuva wrote, performed, recorded, produced, and mixed the material including playing all the instruments with the exception of a trombone and authentic drums supplementing the preprogrammed drums and percussion.

KATIE KEDDIE

Katie Keddie is a singer-songwriter based in Nottingham.

She first caught local attention in 2019, turning heads with her first single ‘Eighteen’ – a wistful piece tinged with nostalgia. Since then she has been quietly working behind the scenes recording as well as playing local shows and festivals, enlisting the aid of some of the nations finest musicians in the process.

Her new release 'Comfort and Despair' has received love from BBC Introducing - being named as the East Midland's 'Chillest track of the week' by Dean Jackson, with Jack Rafferty (BBC Radio Leicester) adding ‘…brilliant, wonderful, fantastic, I can’t think of all of the words I want to use to describe how much I love her sound’.

Guided by producer Jake Buckley and engineer Russ Clark (of Thousandfurs), her debut album is set for release in 2022.
