Description

March is Women's History Month: The month that highlights the contributions of women to events in history and contemporary society.

We celebrate with a platform of artistic interventions and interactions offered by strong female makers that work in the independent dance, performance and music sector in London.

The Eye of Strong Female Makers #1 is a glimpse, a peek, the expression of a tip of an iceberg: we are only able to host a few makers tonight but the landscape of London strong female makers is vast, varied and extensive. In fact we are planning to programme a #2 and #3 and #4.... etc etc etc...

PROGRAMME

Lola Maury:Two to tune (extract)

Battle, seduction or celebration. Two dancers share a moment of absolute concentration, connecting and harmonising with one other's bodies, synchronising rhythms and impulses. Animals anticipating the attack, partners waltzing, daring sports contestants, lovers breathing. A celebration of instinctive co-operation and communication.

Marquez&Zangs, Marta Di Francesco, Alexandra Groover: Ishtar

Ishtar is inspired by the journey of Ishtar into the Underworld, a short film about metamorphosis - a journey from abstraction to beauty, from the wrapping geometries of darkness to grace, pulsing between the violence of change and the ever radical beauty of morphing angles & lines.

Lea Tirabasso: Rosie in Wonderland

Rosie in Wonderland is a physical theatre and tragi-comic solo on the damaging effects of solitude and unfulfilled dreams. This is the 2nd incarnation of a series of solos entitled "see my friends".

Fernanda Munoz-Newsome: REWIND IT (part2)

Originally commissioned by Savages, a fierce all female band who are shaking the music scene, the sound was made specially for the collaboration and performance at a London concert of theirs. REWIND IT (part 2) is a study of women in changing forms, as individuals, collectively, as creature and animal, throughout time and in real time. It is inspired by the many women dance makers, practitioners, fanatics, pioneers, friends and artists that fuel the London dance and performance scene. Thanks to you all.

PUMA ROSA

The East London Industrial Spiritual band sporting a fearless sound cemented in powerfully structured songs and Isabel Munoz-Newsome's hard hitting lyrics.
