Description

TripSpace have teamed up with The Place and Aerowaves to bring you an evening of two solos by internationally touring dance artists, dealing in turn with the impact of the digital and migration on the body. Followed by a screening of “In London” by All We Can Do Is Dance, featuring London-based dance artists inhabiting the fast moving, ever changing landscape they call home.

The first in our series of 4 Trip the Light performances, as part of Intercontinental Drifts 2017: workshops and performances that move, mix and matter.

PROGRAMME

Mirjam Sögner | LARA

In LARA, Mirjam Sögner takes the uncanny movement patterns of early computer game characters as a starting point and translates them back onto her own body. Imitating the imitation, she creates a physical body seemingly trapped in the digital realm. As our digital and physical realities grow together, this solo offers a bodily response to our changing experience of the world.
Mirjam Sögner is an Austrian choreographer and performer based in Berlin. Her solo work LARA tours extensively throughout Europe since its selection for Aerowaves 2016. She received both a DanceWEB Scholarship as well as the START-Stipendium awarded by the Austrian Cultural Council. As a choreographer she has created work for Tanztage Berlin, Dschungel Wien and Kibbutzim College Tel Aviv, among others.

Jasna L. Vinovrški | Staying Alive

A woman in a neat, official suit chews up legal jargon. Teetering on a pile of books, and dependent on her IPad, she creates fragile and precarious situations for herself. Staying Alive is a highly topical solo reflecting on order and control in migration. Subtle humour and multiple absurdities build as the performer gradually enters a state of emergency. As Walter Benjamin says, “the tradition of the oppressed teaches us that the 'state of emergency' in which we live is not the exception but the rule.”
Jasna L. Vinovrški is a performer, choreographer and teacher. She grew up in Zagreb and lives in Berlin. Next to her artistic work she is working closely as a dramaturg and choreographic assistant with Clément Layes, with whom she is also running, since 2008, the company Public in Private. In 2012 Vinovrški gained her Master of Arts degree at the HZT Berlin, and in 2014 she started her PhD at the Institute of Applied Theater Studies at the Justus-Liebig University in Gießen. In 2014, she initiated together with Clément Layes and Dimitry Paranyushkin the artists’ performance platform “3AM“, that regularly takes place at the artists’ house Flutgraben in Berlin. In 2016 her work Staying Alive was part of the Aerowaves priority list and was presented at Spring Forwards.www.publicinprivate.com

All We Can Do Is Dance | In London

In London is a journey through the streets of the city. We discover nine dancers improvising in different places, sharing their mood, their dance, their personality and unveiling each time a facet of the city. It is an invitation to be carried away by the movement and to celebrate its spontaneity.
