TOMMY ASHBY WINTER HEADLINE TOUR
"Wonderfully fresh songwriting, it glistens with energy while searching towards something personal” Clash
“A richly nuanced affair that’s built around a steadily mounting wash of rich guitars, laying the foundation for Ashby’s effortlessly emotive vocal.” Louder Than War
“A compelling song that brings into focus some of our own judgements as well as questioning how independent we truly are as individuals and as a society.” Folk Radio UK
“An impeccable presence, honing an ability to fuse soft, tender vocals with a touch of intimate and infectious songwriting” Spindle
Tommy Ashby’s background is a rather unusual one for a singer-songwriter. Awarded a PhD in the perception of sound before most of us have grown out of daily midday lie-ins, Tommy manages to blend a technical understanding of the way our brain processes sound with the indisputable pure creative energy of someone who grew up writing and playing music in the wilds of Scotland.
Tommy recently started the story of his second ep with the release of single ‘Cocoon’ with additional tracks ‘Steady Hand’ and ‘Someone New’ to follow in quick succession, garnering support from widely followed music sites and respected tastemakers such as Clash, Celebmix and Born, as well as editorial playlist support from both Spotify and Apple and spot plays on Soho Radio. The full ‘Golden Arrow’ ep was released on April 26th along with lead track APOLLO (NEW LOVE).
Tommy’s previous EP, ‘Restless Love’, garnered support from Fearne Cotton, Radio 2, Spotify editorial, Record of the Day and major global syncs for Grey’s Anatomy which lead to Shazam charting around the world as well as Netflix’s The Innocents and NBC’s Midnight Texas to name a few. His single ‘Guilty’ also ran as the trailer for prime-time UK drama series Silent Witness.
Tommy was the main support on Luke Sital Singh’s April 2019 UK tour. He also recently supported Scottish Band The Xcerts at St Pancras Old Church and Canadian singer-songwriter Josh Hyslop at the Old Blue Last. He has previously toured UK & Europe supporting the likes of Rhodes, Tom Speight and Nina Nesbitt as well as a recent Highland tour with Sean McGowan. He will be supporting Big Country in Scotland In June.
To add to this heady cocktail of activity, Tommy is also a champion runner. Ranked second in Britain when he was very young and trained with the likes of Olympian champion Allan Wells, he still runs most days and spent last summer running through all the European cities of Ed Sheeran’s mega Divided tour, on which he was playing as a session guitarist.
