Tina May & Jamie Safir

Feb 01 2019 20:00 - 22:00

Hampstead Jazz Club, Duke of Hamilton, 23-25 New End, Hampstead, NW3 1JD London

Tina May is a multi-award winning vocalist who has established a well deserved reputation on the UK scene as a Jazz singer of great sophistication. From collaborations with musicians such as Stan Tracey, Dave Newton and Colin Towns through to work with the likes of Ray Bryant and Tony Coe, her pure toned voice and faultless delivery have earned her the respect and admiration of both audiences and musicians alike. With more than a dozen CD’s to her name she is widely regarded as one of the UK’s leading vocalists, producing some remarkable gigs and albums.

Tonight, she will be accompanied by our very own Musical Director, Pianist Jamie Safir who has worked with some of the finest jazz vocalists around including Claire Martin, Ian Shaw, Liane Carroll, Natalie Williams to name a few. Jamie is much in demand as a keyboard player and accompanist and also works regularly with Pop-Star Will Young as well as touring Europe and the UK with highly-acclaimed Judi Jackson as her MD. For their first collaboration, Tina and Jamie will explore the lesser-known gems of the Great American Songbook alongside some wonderful contemporary arrangements from Tina’s rich and diverse back-catalogue.

‘Tina May is that great rarity , a singer who enhances a song.’ Dave Gelly, The Observer.

“Nikki Iles…a formidable UK jazz presence… intelligent, sharp and very musical” Guardian.
