Description

This show is the second part of a 3-gig residency at Servant Jazz Quarters for The Vernon Spring - a new solo project from Sam Beste. Throughout the residency Sam has been experimenting with material new and old in search of a sound that feels like home. This solo departure comes after many years of producing records with his band Hejira, soulstress Tawiah, string duo Fran & Flora and others, many of which are part of the Lima Limo collective he co-founded. Sam has also been in demand as a pianist for other artists including Amy Winehouse, Matthew Herbert, and most recently Leon Vynehall. This year he will be doing a series of shows at SJQ for The Vernon Spring, working the curatorial muscles he developed whilst running the club night TRAUM together with his Hejira bandmates. In conjunction with the residency Sam has been releasing a series of singles, beginning last month with debut 'Another', which has had early support from the likes of Zakia Sewell on NTS Radio.

Support will this time come from composer and guitarist Alex Reeve - Sam's fellow Hejira bandmate and long standing musical kindred soul. In addition to his work with Hejira, Alex has been busy making music with the likes of Floating Points, Eric Lau, Tawiah and Mpho and many others as a musician and co-writer. Alex will be joined for this special debut performance of new instrumental music by drummer Alexis Nunez.
