Who was Ann Quin?
Join poet and essayist Anne Boyer and writer and critic Jennifer Hodgson for a evening discussing the extraordinary Ann Quin - female, working class and avant-garde, whose dazzling novels and short stories were as revelatory when first published in the 1960s as they are today.
Quin's writing has been reassessed beyond the status of 'cult author' with this year's highly successful publication of The Unmapped Country: Stories and Fragments, edited and introduced by Jennifer Hodgson (And Other Stories, 2018).
The event will be chaired by Anna Glendinning, editor at And Other Stories.
About the Speakers
Jennifer Hodgson is a writer and critic from Hull. She edited Ann Quin's The Unmapped Country (2018), a collection of the 'lost' short stories and fragments by the radical 1960s writer, Ann Quin. The book was published by And Other Stories to launch their Year of Publishing Women 2018. Jennifer is currently working on a book about Quin's life.
Anne Boyer's newest book, A Handbook of Disappointed Fate, available from Ugly Duckling Presse, collects the best of a decade's worth of Boyer's essays, fables, and ephemera. Boyer's poetry books include The Romance of Happy Workers, My Common Heart, and the 2016 CLMP award-winning Garments Against Women. Boyer is the winner of the 2018 Cy Twombly Award for Poetry from the Foundation for Contemporary Art and a 2018 Whiting Award in nonfiction and poetry. She is the Judith E. Wilson Poetry fellow at Cambridge University for 2018-2019.
Anna Glendinning is editor at And Other Stories. She was shortlisted for the 2017 White Review Short Story Prize and is working on her first collection. Anna has an MA in Eighteenth-Century Literature and Romanticism from Queen Mary, University of London, and tried her hand at a PhD on French revolutionary material culture.
