The Magic Lantern (solo) - ‘Lydia’ Single Launch

The Magic Lantern is the musical moniker of Jamie Doe, an artist dedicated to remedying the anxiety and fear present in everyone. He returns to Kansas Smitty’s for an intimate solo show celebrating the release of his new single ‘Lydia’, joined by a number of very special guests.

'Lydia' is the second single taken from his upcoming third album 'To The Islands’, written during a tumultuous return to his childhood home in Australia after nearly 10 years away and explores memory and hope in a world of near constant uncertainty. Musically ‘To The Islands’ mirrors this exploration, working with a new ensemble from London’s thriving genre bending jazz scene, it draws on a wide range of sounds and textures, from afro-beat grooves, to solo piano, string quintet lyricism to narcotic late night saxophone jams, all united by Jamie’s instantly recognisable voice and inimitable song-writing style.

‘Lydia’ is the most intimate song on the record and was one that Jamie wrote at a real liminal point in his life. Keen to focus on the intensity that comes with stripping everything away, when it came to recording it he did it on hs own, late at night. To honour that spirit, he has decided to launch the single with a solo concert in the beautiful Kansas Smitty's bar off Broadway Market in Hackney. It promises to be a very special night.
