Description
It's Rock Club London's SEVENTH birthday. We have been going since 2011 and we haven't had a birthday party. It's a strange feeling. BUT. Instead of a party, we're announcing our next one! Our first in a year! And our first - finally - that is accessible from station to stage.
Karaoke for the Gaming Generation, presented by Rock Band 3 & 4 and Xbox One: with 2000+ songs from the 1950s to the present day, two guitar controllers, an electric drum kit and two real microphones.
2pm-5pm will be relaxed, enjoying the space, practising if you want, and at 5pm we kick off to rock. Bonus: it's Hallowe'en themed, and if you want to come in costume, please do! (Your hosts will be as well.)
Entry to the venue is £10 on the door, but you will need a ticket here to be guaranteed a place at Rock Club.
If you're underemployed, or having a hard time financially, private message us. We have an Access Fund thanks to our donation bucket, and we want to make this a safe and welcoming space for everyone over 18 (there will be alcohol after 5pm).
Want food? You can bring it in from outside.
Want a drink? Bishops next door will happily serve you at reasonable prices (and are fine with you using their loos, too). Soft drinks are widely available in the Whitgift Centre itself, with a fair few supermarkets and cafes. As usual, we can't allow food or drinks on stage, but our dedicated area has diner tables and sofas.
Want a break? Use your inclusive wristband to enjoy any of the other arcade games and consoles the HOG has to offer, from Dance Dance Revolution to Time Crisis 2 to Gamecube to N64 - they have dozens, restored and cared for by their head honcho Mark.
Looking forward to seeing you there!
Accessibility:
The Heart of Gaming is inside the Whitgift Centre, accessible via lifts and level access from two entrances. We recommend going via the Whitgift Centre from 2-7pm, and leaving or arriving after 7pm via the rear entrance at the back of Advance House (Street View link here: https://goo.gl/maps/uz4AxWMBr9U2 ). The Heart of Gaming itself is on a floor with a wheelchair lift, or up 16 stairs with sturdy rails.
Toilets:
Toilets are either inside the Whitgift Centre about 2 minutes walk away and up a level via escalator or lift, or in Bishops after 7pm when the Whitgift Centre closes. Bishops has level access, though the toilets have narrow doors and so are unsuitable for full time wheelchair users or folks with an allergy to cats. (We're sorry about this, and we're continuing to work on solutions for after 7pm.)
Food and Drink:
We recommend the following for convenience or unique choice:
- Shakeaway, Whitgift Centre - selling custom milkshakes, including dairy-free, open till 6.30pm.
- What The Pitta, Boxpark - nearest vegan place - good kebabs and baklava, open till 11pm.
- Bishops, next door - nearest place for a pint and alcoholic courage, if you need it! Open late.
- the McDonald's on George Street near East Croydon Station is open 24 hours.
Our Access Fund to provide low-no cost entry for those in need is supported by our donation bucket on the night.
Questions on any of these are welcome via email - rockclublondon@gmail.com - or Facebook Messenger!
