Description
The Bafta-winning duo Heydon Prowse and Joylon Rubenstein, of BBC3’s comedy series ‘The Revolution Will Be Televised’ will join their Zimbabwean counterparts ‘Zambezi News’ at The Comedy Café Theatre on Thursday 27th August who are coming to London in between appearances in Berlin and at Shambala festival.
The show will feature Zambezi News Live – a 30 minute satirical sketch performance from Comrade Fatso, Outspoken and Michael K who hilariously tackle issues from race to sex, politics to sport and hip-hop to land reform. The Zimbabweans will then be joined onstage by Prowse and Rubenstein to share stories, swap jokes and explore experiences of censorship and free speech on both sides of the Sahara.
Zambezi News’ bold, daring and award-winning comedy has won-over fans from Zimbabwe to Swaziland to South Africa and these satirists are now ready to take on Europe. 2015 has been a great year for the comedians as their brave work has featured on CNN, BBC, Channel 4 and in the Guardian. The group mocks typical Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation news programmes, offering unabashed propaganda, journalistic ineptitude and absurd news reports that are sure to leave the audience in stitches.
Similar to the comedy of Zambezi News, The Revolution Will Be Televised perform satirical pranks in an effort to “fight back” against the greed, corruption and hypocrisy of politicians, multinationals and tax-shy corporations in the UK and USA; targets to date include David Cameron, Cheryl Cole and Shell.
Together, the two comedy groups will talk about and shed satirical light on the hard-hitting issues of today that many try to keep their distance from. They will also remind the audience that no matter where we are in the world there will always be power-hungry politicians, corporations and individuals trying to control us in one way or another... An evening sure to send everyone home laughing.
