THE RED TURTLE (Michael Dudok de Wit, 2017, Cert PG)

Nov 04 2017 10:30 - 13:00

Centre17, 1 Church Hill, Walthamstow, E17 3AB London

Our Kids' Film Lounge screenings return! This time at a new venue in central Walthamstow - Centre17. We are very excited to be re-launching our "organized chaos" in a perfect new space. As always we like to bring you the best of children's world cinema and what better than another Studio Ghibli delight.

The Red Turtle is the tale of a man who is stranded on a desert island during a storm. His desperate attempts to escape, by lashing together bamboo canes to form a raft, are repeatedly thwarted by some unseen undersea force that shatters his vessel. On his third attempt, the man comes face to face with his saboteur, a giant red turtle who in turn recounts the milestones in the life of a human being.

This film adds to Studio Ghibli's estimable legacy with a beautifully animated effort whose deceptively simple story boasts narrative layers as richly absorbing as its sumptuous visuals, and replacing dialogue with a soaring soundtrack.

As usual we will have our pre-film activity to entertain your little ones. This time it will be led by Scribble & Smudge. The session is included in the entry price.

Bring along dvd(s) you have finished with and swap for other(s) that members of the audience have brought along themselves.

We will be serving freshly made popcorn, organic meat hotdogs, veggie hotdogs, organic fruit juices, organic coffee, fairtrade tea and delicious ice cream.
