More about the Preston Bill:
Through a mixture of verbatim political speeches and original storytelling – plus the occasional song on a ukulele - Andy Smith’s sixty-minute show charts eighty years of history, from the end of World War II to the election of David Cameron. Encompassing the establishment of the EEC, death of JFK, fall of the Berlin Wall, Thatcher’s rise to power and the dismantling of the unions... The Preston Bill explores how world events affect one person and how one person might try to make a difference in the world.
THIS IS IT: Talk/Q&A with Andy Smith
In addition to his performance at Grafton House Andy invites you to join him before the show at the University of Lincoln to hear him discuss his technique of ‘dematerialised theatre’. This is a theatre that tries to explore the theatreness of theatre, that uses methods of reduction and removal in order to try to do ‘more with less’. In this talk he will reflect on examples of this practice, his insistence on continuing to operate within these frameworks, and his stubbornness in asking what can feel like both simple but essential questions about what it is and why we might be doing it.
This talk is kindly supported by the University of Lincoln, School of Fine and Performing Arts’ Critical Encounters Series.
5pm – 6pm. Digital Crit Room, Nicola De La Haye Building. NDH2018. University of Lincoln. The talk is free of charge but places need to be reserved by emailing Jacqueline Bolton: jbolton@lincoln.ac.uk
