The Manciu Trio joins forces with young artists, Timothy Chua and Ben Shibolet, to present the epic work that is Schubert’s double cello quintet alongside a programme of Beethoven and Dohnyani. Schubert only fully fledged quintet, it has been praised as ‘sublime’ and as possessing ‘bottomless pathos’. The lesser known Serenade for String Trio written by Hungarian composer, Ernst Von Dohnyani, is a compact work filled with vigour and character; and Beethoven’s final string trio in C Minor is an intriguing foresight into the composer’s later string quartet writing.
