Landscape is unquestionably one of the most popular photographic genres, firstly because it is so accessible, but of equal importance, it is also a means of allowing us to communicate with nature.

Photographing the landscape is a way to connect with the world around us, giving us time away from our busy lives. We also get to appreciate nature, which is not only good for our health but also for our overall well-being. When we embrace the ‘Intimate Landscape’ the effect becomes even more beneficial.

Our speaker tonight, the expert landscape photographer Tony Worobiec
FRPS has a concern though, and that is that some landscape photographers
are only drawn to what is commonly known as photographic honeypots:
these are well known locations that have been photographic by numerous
other photographers and will undoubtedly have appeared in numerous
    photographic magazines and books.

He writes: we can all see the appeal; success breeds success, and if
somebody else has been successful with a particular location, why not
you? Often when approaching an over-photographic location, you already
have a picture in mind, which is often where things go awry, because the
weather and lighting are often never quite the same as you had
imagined. Honeypot chasing photographers can be disappointed with their
results when they compare their image with the one, they saw published!
Even if they do get a wonderfully illuminated example, the excitement is
    often only short-lived.

Tony’s lecture promises to give us a different approach to the landscape, the ‘Intimate Landscape’.

During his lecture Tony’s aims and objectives are to give you methods of:

    1) Valuing your immediate environment from the moment you step outside into the garden or even into the street. Tony will show you that there are worthwhile photographic opportunities to exploit on your doorstep.

    2) You will learn to develop one's own unique way of looking at the world. The "intimate" landscape is about developing your own unique seeing eye.

    3) You will begin to understand that irrespective of the location and the weather conditions, there will always be opportunities to capture meaningful photographs.

    4) Tony will teach the skills and techniques specific to making best use of the "intimate landscape".

    5) To understand that the notion of "landscape" need not necessarily be "panoramic" in nature. Often excluding the sky introduces us to a much more valid interpretation of "landscape".

    6) You will appreciate that the intimate landscape can sometimes appear quite abstract in nature.

    7) Overall you will develop a sense of confidence in your own personal photography.
