The Greatest Variety Show Ever 2019

Dec 14 2019 19:30 - 22:00

2 Dugard Way, Renfrew Road, SE11 4TH London

The Cinema Museum’s variety extravaganza this year is, as ever, a cornucopia of delight – an evening of star attractions bringing you the best of film, variety, vaudeville. music hall and the concert hall.

We’ve scoured the archives to bring you top comedy, great dancing, singers of the highest calibre and novelty acts that will thrill and mystify you.

This  year’s comedy comes from some of Hollywood’s masters as well as an hilarious stand-up routine from one of America’s great female comics, Kathleen Madigan. We have our side-splitting contest to find the waitress least likely to get a tip. And, with the help of WC Fields, Peter Sellars and Laurel and Hardy we’ll see how perilous the billiard table can be.

From days of yore we have one of the music hall’s most popular acts, Wilson, Keppel and Betty as well as a melancholic tumbling routine that has echoes of Waiting for Godot. We have the magician who won the World Cup for conjuring, giving a performance that will – as they say – ‘do your head in’.

And what will macho Mr Putin make of this? We have sailors from the Russian navy performing a high-kicking dance routine that wouldn’t disgrace the Tiller Girls. Then two vintage Hollywood actors – ones you’d least expect – get together for an energetic dance number that you’d swear they couldn’t be capable of.

Sweet, lovely and tragic Eva Cassidy will sing for us, as will Andrea Bocelli in a duet with Edith Piaf. Another unexpected pairing – James Brown and Luciano Pavarotti – show that high art and rock ‘n roll can go together very well. kd lang shows us what a great singer she is by bringing a new and moving interpretation to a standard Cole Porter number.

From the upper echelons of culture, we have thrilling ballet from Paris.

It’s an evening of exceptional entertainment, with artists caught at the very peak of their careers. Treat yourself to a great evening of fun, laughter and amazing skills. There’s nothing else quite like it in London – and it’s for one night only!

Doors open at 19.00, for a 19.30 start.

Refreshments will be available in our licensed cafe/bar.
