Description
"I think discontinuities in our normal state of consciousness lie ahead that exceed the gulf today between waking and dreaming consciousness" - David Pearce
The Psychedelic Society is very pleased to be hosting an evening with two great minds of our time to consider 'The Future of Consciousness', in the context of increasing use and understanding of psychedelics and developments in artificial intelligence.
GRAHAM HANCOCK is a writer, journalist, and sociologist whose body of work ranges between studying poverty and health conditions to confronting mainstream archaeologists by presenting a dramatically different history for our planet. Hancock has written for The Guardian, The Independent, the Sunday Times, and was the East Africa Correspondent for The Economist between 1981-1983. Graham's censored TED talk 'The War on Consciousness' featuring his experiences with ayahuasca has been viewed almost a million times.
DAVID PEARCE is a philosopher who promotes the idea that there exists a strong ethical imperative for humans to work towards the abolition of suffering in all sentient life. He co-founded — with Swedish polymath Nick Bostrom — the World Transhumanist Association (now Humanity+) in 1998, and the Abolitionist Society in 2002. David has written widely on artificial intelligence, bioengineering and psychedelics (see http://www.hedweb.com/transhumanism/interview.html and http://biointelligence-explosion.com/ for more).
Graham and David will give presentations before we move into a discussion open to all.
