    Description

A new four-part journey for those wishing to deepen into the fascinating world of wild food, medicine and plant lore. The programme will take place on the following dates:

    • Saturday 21st May
    • Saturday 9th July
    • Saturday 3rd September
    • Saturday 5th November

Timings for each day are 11am-4pm and our meeting points will be in beautiful woodland locations close to Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire. The total cost for the programme is £250 and this includes:

    • A guided journey through the forager’s year, learning how to safely identify and sustainably harvest a wide range of wild plants and fungi throughout the seasons
    • Understanding of what can be found in different habitats, including woodland, meadow and hedgerow
    • Practical sessions in which we will make delicious and nutritious foods and drinks from the wild plants and mushrooms we harvest
    • Practical instruction in making a campfire using foraged materials, and cooking effectively on it, whatever the weather
    • Foraged medicine making, including items for a ‘wild first aid kit’
    • Reflective and creative time in nature. We will encourage you to form deep connections with the plants and fungi through focused observation, drawing, and engaging all of your senses through activities such as tea tastings
    • ‘Sit spots’ in which you will be encouraged to take reflective time on your own and connect with the land around you, observing seasonal changes
    • Plant lore. Out tutors will share stories, folklore & history of the wild foods we find, and reawaken some old community traditions around them
    • ‘Wild work’ assignments. These activities will encourage you to stay on the Forager’s Journey when you are back at home between programme sessions

You will also receive a ‘Forager’s Journey Kit' at the beginning of the course, containing a journal/ sketch pad, stationary, recipe cards and more.

    What else will be provided?

    • Compost toilet facilities
    • A shelter in case of rain

    What you will need:

    • A packed lunch for each session
    • Warm, comfortable clothes for all weathers

    You will be guided by:

Live Wild's Leonie Morris - Leonie is one of Live Wild's founders and directors, and works with people of all ages to encourage confidence, competence and a sense of belonging in the outdoors. She is a qualified Bushcraft Instructor & Wild Food Teacher, with many years of experience teaching a range of programmes, including regular seasonal foraging courses in locations across the north of England. Leonie is known amongst her foraging colleagues for her particular skills in creating fire whatever the weather using traditional methods, her sharp and seemingly extra-sensory 'mushroom vision', and her ability to help people see the world in a completely new way through sharing her extensive knowledge and nature-based wisdom.

Live Wild's Sophie Wren - Sophie is an experienced Foraging Teacher and a proud member of the Association of Foragers. She has a particular passion for fungi, and has dedicated much of her adult life to learning everything she can about these fascinating beings. Sophie teachers regular seasonal foraging courses across the north of England alongside Leonie, and is also part of a team helping to regeneratively manage an important area of ancient woodland. Sophie has a particular interest in ethnobotany and folklore, and likes to share stories of how plants and fungi were used and revered by our ancestors.

    Access:

Please note that the course will be held in woodland where the ground is steep and uneven in places. We will spend much of the day walking, albeit at a fairly slow forager's pace!

Our meeting points will be close to public transport links, easily accessible from Hebden Bridge centre.

Please email us at info@livewild.org.uk if you have any access requirements, or general questions about the course.

    Cancellation policy:

If a booking is cancelled more than one month before the start of the programme: a full refund will be given.
If the booking is cancelled within a month of the course date: a refund will only be given if Live Wild are able to fill the place/ places on the programme. Should we be unable to fill the places on the course, we cannot offer a refund.
