    Description

The Free Association is proud to announce the next

Sketch Class with the Free Association and Television’s The Dawson Brothers!

    That’s right, fools!

The Free Association, London’s best improvisational home and school, has teamed up with British Television’s best sketch writing team, the Dawson Brothers (That Mitchell and Webb Look, The Peter Serafinowicz Show), in order to deliver the UK’s best course in comedy sketch writing.

With a strict focus on sketch writing development, this five week syllabus - written in collaboration with the Dawson Brothers and rooted in the FA philosophy - is an effective, fun and active writing course geared towards helping improvisers, comedians, and the sketch-obsessed work out material, learn technique, and write, write, write!

    What can you expect?

Classes are 3 hours long and centre on the principles of sketch writing. Classes will provide students with a litany of useful sketch skills and techniques used by professional sketch writers today including, but not limited to, premise generation, effective game play in sketch, the correct use of styles, forms and structures, group writing etiquette, current television sketch templates, and much, much more!

Plus, this class will actually get things done!

In addition to learning these skills and techniques, The Sketch Class will force students (You!) to write, write, and write some more! Students will write during class, and in the weeks between class (That’s right! There’s homework!) Students will end the course with a professional quality sketch packet, punched and polished by our teachers and fellow students.

    Is that all?!

    NO!

In addition to learning and writing, The Sketch class culminates in a The FA Sketch Showcase – a show, featuring the class’s best material, performed live, in front of an audience, and recorded for a podcast on the SOAP network.

So, if sketch comedy is something that you’ve always been interested in, then this is the class for you. Get in touch if you want to sign up!

    Classes are Saturday 1st October through November 12th 11:30am – 2:30pm

Sketch Showcase! Friday 18th 8:30pm. The course will include some final preparations and developments during the evening.

The Sketch Class is 250 pounds. The Free Association Level 2 is a prerequisite.

Classes are taught by Steve Dawson (Dawson Bros) and Liz Smith (Massive Dad, Borderline, Ballot Monkeys)
