Beginners Pottery Throwing Course – Cups and Bowls
A throwing Workshop aimed at beginners who would like to learn the basics and understand the fundamentals. Pottery classes are a great way to relax, meet new friends and learn a new skill! There are also many health benefits of pottery, including stress-relief and improved dexterity. All our classes are open to all abilities and ages!.
Workshop Breakdown
1 – Throwing basic forms Fundamental wheel setup and effective use Focus on clay centring techniques Introduction to wall pulling Hands-on practice: personalised instruction and feedback on correct throwing form and centring clay
2 – Further form building Refining centring skills Refining the opening of the clay and pulling the walls with even thickness Creating a textured surface Hands-on practice: personalised instruction and feedback on pulling walls more efficiently
3 – Trimming + Handle making and attaching Identifying the ‘Leather hard’ stage of clay Using trimming tools effectively Creating foot rings and smoothing walls Handle making – pulling handles and hand-building techniques Identifying challenges of trimming and attaching appendages Bisque firing is carried out between these weeks. 1000’C
4 – Glazing Basics of Glaze – Dipping/Pouring/Brushing
