    Description

2016 is here and The Comedy Wire is ready to start a brand new year of comedy. The Library Bar in Kingston is our new home, kicking off the first event on January 27th.

Opening the show is the brilliant Sarah Callaghan. Sarah started performing in 2010 and quickly made her mark becoming a Funny Women finalist. Her unique stage persona has led to an impressive gig history with performances at some of the UK’s most famous venues. Her reputation for delivering observational humour that doesn’t pull any punches lead to her beating hundreds of hopefuls to win the legendary Up the Creek’s ‘One to Watch’ Competition in 2013.

"Sarah Callaghan is the real deal, and brings an unaffected authenticity to her set, she has the potential to a great." - Chortle

Also on the bill is Oli Bettesworth. World-weary and anxious beyond his years, Oli employs his brand of confessional storytelling, deadpan absurdism, explosive vitriol and surreal playfulness as he attempts to get to grips with a life that hasn't come with the proper instructions.

He has been performing since January 2010 performing around London and the rest of the UK, including two runs at the Edinburgh Fringe. He has also gigged with Sara Pascoe, Dan Antopolski, Paul Foot, Trevor Lock, Pappy’s, Dr. Brown, Dave Schneider and Luke Toulson, and has been booked to open for Carl Donnelly and Chris Martin.

“A very funny man” Carl Donnelly

Our Headliner for the night is the awesome Phil Kay. Phil, as seen on QI and Russell Howards Good News, has a comedy style that is a unique blend of energy, improvisation and leaps of imagination that take his audience on a joyride they'll never forget. Even Phil has no idea what might happen when he unleashes his crazy brand of improvised comedy mayhem. He possesses the rare gift of creating a space where audiences feel like they are kids again, all taking part in a practical joke.

The show will be hosted by Resident MC Ryan Dalton and will also have sets from resident comedians Jake Howie and Faye Treacy.
