Description
London Cooking Project is proud to present Zev Robinson’s 'The Art and Politics of Eating' - an exploration into the relationship between food, wine, culture, art and sustainability.
The project, also on tour in the US, both examines and breaks down boundaries between various aesthetic experiences and art forms, transforming restaurants into cinemas and art installations and galleries into dining and living rooms.
'Spanish Grapes' - Thurs 30th June, 7pm
The event will feature an installation of Zev Robinson's paintings about food and the screening of a short documentary, 'Spanish Grapes' which examines the history and culture of wine in Spain.
The screening will be accompanied by a Spanish menu prepared by resident LCP chef Lou Kenny ofBobs'i'loula and will be followed by a panel discussion "Is Food Art?", hosted by Steven Gale with panelists including chef and author Oliver Rowe and Zev Robinson. A selection of Zev's paintings will also be exhibited.
Menu
Amuse Bouche - an edible bunch of flowers with a herby creme fraîche dip.
Gazpacho with a crisp bread palette and edible paints.
Torched mackerel with gooseberries, barley and hazelnuts served with a purple salad
Chocolate and liquorice pudding with apricots and Jersey cream.
Price: £40
Zev Robinson is a Canadian-British artist and filmmaker currently living in Spain. His artwork is characterised by a strong sense of colour and form that is built up in many layers, lending a slightly misty and mysterious atmosphere to the metaphysical imagery. Over the last two years, he has been producing paintings and works on paper that focus on food – still lifes of fruits and vegetables, cooking implements and scenes in kitchens and restaurants.
Since 2008, he has directed, filmed and edited a series of documentaries on food and wine that, with his paintings, are the core of The Art and Politics of Eating project that will go to cities in the UK, US, and Europe over the next few years, along with tastings, wine dinners, panel discussions and more.
All profits from the events will go back into funding our community projects at the London Cooking Project.
