Description

A special Syrian Supper with Gingko to launch The Culinary Crescent

with talk by the author, Peter Heine.

Copies of the book will also be available to buy on the night.

The Hands Up Foundation is thrilled to bring you a very special Syrian Supper Club to celebrate the launch of "The Culinary Crescent", set to be published in October. This beautifully illustrated book is a history of pan-Middle Eastern food, explaining how cuisine interweaves with religion, history, tradition and folklore in the region. It has about 70 Arabic, Persian, Turkish, Jewish and Mughal recipes, and goes beyond the Islamic world to include Christian and Jewish cultures. The book is a translation by Peter Lewis from Peter Heine’s German original.

And what better way to launch such a book than with a Syrian Supper? Come down to the E5 Bakehouse in Hackney, where the original suppers started, and feast on some of the finest food that Syrian cuisine has to offer, courtesy of long time SSC chef Ruth Quinlan.

The house rules

We like to place guests at our Syrian Suppers, so please make sure you let us know in the notes when booking if you'd like to be seated with particular people who have booked separately.

Drink

A cocktail on the house to start and plenty of booze will be available to buy on the night, never fear.

Dietary requirements

We do also cater for vegan/veggie and dairy/nut free, so please highlight this in the notes when booking so that the right food comes your way.

Cancellations

In terms of cancellation, we can offer a full refund on a ticket as long as you let us know at least three days before the event. This is to ensure that we don't end up with empty seats round the dinner table, and each supper raises the maximum it can for the aid projects we fund in Syria.

FAQ

  • I have not received my ticket via email. What should I do?

The first thing to do is check your spam/junk filters and inboxes. Your tickets were sent as an attachment and can be thought of as spam by some email services. Alternatively, you can always find your tickets in your Billetto account that you can access in the browsers or the dedicated Billetto app. For more help with this, read here.

  • I wish to cancel my ticket and receive a refund. What should I do?

The approval of refunds is entirely at the event organiser’s discretion, and you should get in contact with the event organiser to discuss what options are available to you. To get in touch with the event organiser, simply reply to your order confirmation email or use the "Contact organiser" form on the organiser's profile. For more help with this, read here.

  • I have registered on the waiting list, what happens now?

If more tickets become available you will be notified (by email) amongst others who have joined the list. Purchasing is on a first-come first-serve basis. For more information, read here.

  • Where do I find a link to an online event?

Check your order confirmation page or order confirmation email. Usually, the organiser of the event provides the details in the order confirmation email or they might send you a follow-up email with a link to their online event. You might also want to read the event description on Billetto where an event organiser should describe how to join the event online. For more information on this, read here.

  • What is refund protection and why would I need it?

Refund Protection provides you with the assurance that if unforeseen and unavoidable circumstances interfere with your ability to attend an event you can claim a refund. For more information on this, read here.
