What is this?
Hi, we're Ellen (blogger at https://taleoftworuns.com/) and Andreea (blogger at http://www.pennyplainfit.co.uk/), 2 geeks who we love running and we want to inspire others to do the same. So we're organizing a charity virtual race.
What is a Virtual Race?
A virtual race can be ran anytime, anywhere, by anyone. It's a way to connect with other runners without being in the same place at a certain time. You'll get a race pack via post (including a nice, well deserved medal) and you'll help us raise money for charity.
Who can join?
If you've never ran before, this is a great opportunity to start. We're offering a beginners plan to help you. You can also join if you're already running and want to get a new personal best, we have a plan for you, too. And if you just want to run/jog/walk the 5k and get the medal, that's also fine. You can make it a fun day, get your friends and family involved and spend the day out.
How does it work?
Register today and we'll send you your race pack. Then you can run/walk/jog the 5k on your own time during the month of October. Let us know when you've done the run and if you want to take pictures with your medal or during your run, do send them over, we want to see you in action. You can also join our Facebook event to be social.
Who am I supporting by joining?
We're supporting Spinal Research, the UK’s leading charity funding medical research around the world to develop effective treatments for paralysis caused by spinal cord injury. Every year 1,000 people in the UK and Ireland are paralyzed following an injury to their spinal cord. Spinal Research raises money to fund research into clinical treatments as well as vital scientific research such as clinical tools to better understand the injury caused, and for the devastating effects on daily living such as breathing, hand movement, and bladder and bowel control. Thanks to the innovative research we have funded, many experimental treatments, including those to restore movement and feeling, have had positive effects on spinal cord injury in the research laboratory. This medical research will not only benefit people with a spinal cord injury but also advance treatments for multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s, stroke, dementia and motor neurone disease. How much do I have to donate?
You can donate as much as you like, we recommend £8 as a minimum, but it's totally up to you. For donations under £20, the race pack will contain a t-shirt and your medal. For donations over £20, we will also send you a water bottle. Depending on your card type, there might be a small card handling fee.
