Description
Experienced up close, bioluminescence is a remarkably powerful and refined light: cold but uniquely beguiling. Given that one of its major biological roles is acting as a lure, it attracts and engages the curious. Dr Simon Park has used bacterial bioluminescence beyond rigorous scientific research and in this talk, he will reveal how he has used this organic form of light as a unique medium to disclose some of nature’s most vital yet often unseen events.
Dr Simon F. Park is a Senior Teaching Fellow at the University of Surrey, where he teaches Microbiology and Molecular Biology. He also works at the fertile intersection of art and science and has been involved in many innovative art and microbiology projects that have been shown at the Natural History Museum, the Science Museum, the Royal Institution, the Science Gallery (Dublin), GV Art (London), the Wellcome Collection and the Eden Project.
