On Saturday 6th of April 2019, at 6pm, South Social Film Festival is happy to partner with THE GREAT BRITISH SASAKAWA FOUNDATION to celebrate JAPAN. Japan is a country renowned for its historical and extensive cinema, influential music industry, anime, video gaming and rich cuisine. We have a new location, the brand new independent theatre, MOVING PICTURES CINEMA, inside London's most beloved food hall, Mercato Metropolitano, in Elephant & Castle.
Panel discussion with Japanese experts, Irene Gonzales-Lopez (Kingston University) and Griseldis Kirsch (SOAS).
Close-Knit by Naoko Ogigami is a feel-good movie that deals with an unconventional family dynamic consisting of husband, transgender wife and niece, who all happen to live together. One of the first of its kind in Japanese cinema, the film will raise many questions about new families, gender boundaries, cliche identity and new fluid determination. A lively debate with Japanese experts following the screening, will give a deeper understanding of Japanese culture.
Bringing us the sounds of Japan will be Japanese singing ambassador MIOU. Her enthusiasm for music and fashion makes for a beautiful and entertaining performance. Miou has already achieved the award for "Asian Top Fashion Singer " and “Asia Pacific Inspirational Woman”. https://www.mioujapan.com
