    SONOS STUDIO LONDON

    ZINE VOL. 2 EXHIBITION

    EXHIBITION & EVENTS

    14 AUGUST 2015

Protein Studios, 31 New Inn Yard, EC2A 3EY

    www.sonos.com/studio

Sonos Studio Vol.2 is the second edition of a quarterly magazine from Sonos.

Vol.2 celebrates the world of our London collaborators working in sound, music, art and technology including Giles Martin, Hudson Mohawke, Yuri Suzuki, Charlie Dark, NTS, Random International, Tom Dixon, The Royal College of Art, Roisin Murphy, 22 Tracks, Abbey Road Studios and more.

The publication of Vol.2 heralds the imminent arrival in Shoreditch of Sonos Studio London this September, a public space dedicated to music, technology and art – explored through an evolving programme of listening events, exhibitions, performance, workshops, artist talks and screenings.

See Sonos.com/studio for information and dedicated mailing list.

On Friday 14th August, Sonos Studio host an exhibition that brings to life the magazine via print and a day-long programme of events, including:

Work from the Royal College of Art/Sonos ‘SoundObject’ collaboration between the Information Experience Design and Design Products cohorts

A lunchtime hands-on art and tech demo including VR work from London-based interactive technology artists Marshmallow Laser Feast and artist/inventor Yuri Suzuki presenting ‘OTOTO’, a musical invention kit which allows anyone to quickly and easily create their own electronic musical instrument, from a drum kit of saucepans to origami that sings when touched. Also including discussion with SoundObject/RCA tutor John Fass.

The day kicks off with an early morning music and exercise theme, including a special yoga session with FRAME, topped and tailed with a short talk on where music and fitness meet, from Frame and Sonic Bells - a Kettlebell training class with a twist presented by RCA students

Also presented throughout the day will be a listening playback of artist Gwilym Gold's debut record 'A Paradise', a week before its official release on Brille Records, accompanied by visuals from Gold’s long-term collaborator Colin Henderson.

Plus from 1 - 4pm on Friday afternoon, there will be an NTS takeover in the Cream Café.

All events are FREE to attend and spaces will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

Sonicbells teaches, enhances and lets you play with exercise through sound. Our concept was to explore the relationship between sound and physicality in the area of fitness. We chose to focus on kettlebells and them being the instrument. The users are free to create sound through choreography or vice versa. Sonicbells allows you to place your smartphone inside the kettlebell and the sound cues can provide information about whether exercises are being performed correctly by measuring angles and speed. Let your movements be guided by the different weights, then create a musical atmosphere and enjoy group exercise among friends by playing the Sonicbells together.
