SLAVIC SOIREES with Leona Gogolicynova & Friends
Leona Gogolicynova, violin
Rachael Shipard, piano
A new concert series at Velehrad Centre, Barnes, showcasing Slavic composers together with complementary and contrasting works by other artists.
In keeping with the theme of the series, Rachel and I will be performing works by two Czech composers, Antonin Dvorak and Bedrich Smetana, with a small addition of Philip Glass in the first half of the concert. You will be invited to enjoy some of the most touching Czech music written for the violin and piano, including Four Romantic pieces by Dvorak and the two duets by Smetana 'From the Homeland'. Rachael will also take you on an exciting journey from the mountains of the Bohemian Forest, through the Czech countryside, and into the city of Prague while she performs the arrangement of the symphonic poem 'Vltava' ('The Moldau') by Smetana.
