To celebrate its 150th Anniversary, Sainsbury's is going back in time to its humble beginnings in London’s Soho with an exclusive pop-up experience.
Pre-booked slots are now sold out, but limited walk-in slots will be available on a first-come, first served basis.
Guests will be taken on a sensorial journey from the store’s family-run shop on Drury Lane in 1869, through to the present day. The immersive experience will bring to life the last 150 years of the Sainsbury's story from the very first store which sold just butter, milk and eggs, to the innovations that made it the iconic, nationwide retailer it is today.
Stepping onto a Victorian Drury Lane, guests will be guided on an adventure through time, discovering the sights, sounds (and flavours!) of the Sainsbury’s story, seeing how our shopping experience has been transformed over the decades.
This one-off experience will be open to the public 25th
& 26th May 2019.
Guests will be led from a Victorian Soho street through to the ‘Shop of the Past’, where actors will bring to life over five decades of history, from the turn of the century, through two World Wars and up to the advent of ‘self-service’ shopping in the 1950s.
The final part of the journey allows visitors to delve into the last 70 years of Sainsbury’s history, and how it has changed the way we shop and eat in Britain today.
*Latecomers may or may not be admitted to their ticketed entry time. We will do our best to accommodate latecomers within a later slot but this will be based on availability so cannot be guaranteed.
**Unfortunately, large bags (e.g. suitcases) are not permitted in the space and we don't have a cloakroom, so please bear this in mind
