SHOUT-UP!
Safety in the night-time economy campaign from Safe Newcastle, Newcastle City Council and Rape Crisis Tyneside and Northumberland
Research shows that if venues are safe, welcoming and inclusive people spend longer in them.
Recent research shows that if venues adopt a zero-tolerance to sexual harassment, people, and women specifically spend more money in those venues.
Shout-Up! is a campaign to make all patrons feel safer in venues by openly stating, that we will not tolerate abuse or sexually aggressive behaviour in our venues. It is the city taking collective responsibility to see it and tackle it.
WHY TAKE PART?
- Because if we make our venues not only safer, but if we DECLARE and tell people about the work we do to make our venues safer, more people attend, people stay longer, spend more and keep coming back
- Because your participation in Shout-Up! will have a very positive impact on your Raising the Bar application
- Because this requires nothing but your time and support, a training opportunity for your team and a press and marketing opportunity for your venue, at no cost to you
The training is called Bystander Intervention, it will support bar staff and door staff to recognise situations that could endanger patrons and understand the impact on patrons. The training will teach staff how to deal with these situations within the scope of their role, i.e. no-one will be required to put themselves in danger.
The training is delivered by experts at Rape Crisis Tyneside and Northumberland and will last up to three hours, if you have been forwarded this course by your venue manager, please sign up by clicking above.
You can also choose to do the course on Tuesday 5th December from 10am - 1pm.
