SECAM are thrilled to be hosting their second Folkestone Art Daytrip! Join us for a guided tour of Folkestones’s contemporary art scene. Tour attendees will be led on an exclusive trail of everything the Folkestone Art scene has to offer.

Coinciding with the official opening of ten new additions to Folkstone Artworks and Open Quarter, SECAM’s tour will be a chance to explore the highlights of this thriving arts hub. Folkestone Artworks features 27 public works from the likes of Tracy Emin, Cornelia Parker, Yoko Ono, Pablo Bronstein, Richard Wilson and Sarah Staton. Celebrations will include talks, a creative networking event and live music.

Alongside this, Open Quarter will see a number of artists’ studios and galleries throwing open their doors and providing unique access to visitors. The B&B Project Space, The Brewery Tap and ARRCC are among the list of spaces that will allow the opportunity to engage in workshops and to discover the artists’ inspirations and practices.

£25 includes a one-day tour with stop off for lunch (not included), meeting artists, curators and seeing off-the-beaten-track exhibitions, alongside architectural gems, food and Coastal hospitality.

The South East Coast is undergoing the same renaissance through art that South London has trail blazed. With a mixture of major galleries like Turner Contemporary, The Jerwood Gallery in Hastings, De La Warr Pavillion in Bexhill on Sea, festivals like the House Festival in Brighton and both Folkestone Triennial and Whitstable Biennale it is ripe for intrepid art explorers to beat a path to the South East Coast taking in the more ‘grassroots’ galleries, entertainment by the seaside and charm of fresh fish, pubs and even mid century furniture along the way. See the areas develop as new architecture comes in and the famous Dreamland entertainment park is developed by Wayne Hemingway, combining seaside charm with cutting edge art and design.

The New York Times recently wrote a feature ‘Why the Art Crowd Are Returning to Kent’ SECAM will provide the answer and map for this with a fully comprehensive website with listings, printed map and our Art Weekends.Focussed on a different ‘hub’ every month, either Brighton, Hastings, Folkestone or Margate, bookers will get taken on a day tour taking in galleries, meeting artists, sampling the local food and artists hotspots. It’s a chance to meet like-minded art enthusiasts, share food and art and local hospitality whilst watching the sun go down over Folkestone beach! You can even curate your own daytrip using the helpful www.southeastcoastartmap.com website to see what is on and pick up an art map when you arrive.

Be ahead of the curve and see why everyone is going to be heading to the South East Coast for their next culture fix!
