Description
A special screening of the original 35mm print of Jules Dassin’s film noir classic about a hoodlum on the make in post-war London, starring Richard Widmark as a wannabe wrestling promoter who runs foul of underworld kingpin Herbert Lom. Andrew Pulver, the author of the BFI’s guide to the film, will be in conversation with poet Sean O’Brien, whose chapbook, Hammersmith, has been inspired by the film’s iconic imagery. The event is co-hosted by the Cinema Museum and Hercules Editions, publishers of Hammersmith.
This event also marks the London premier of Kate Sweeney’s short film Hammersmith, an elegiac animation drawn from both O’Brien’s poem and Dassin’s film.
