    Description

Sit back and be enthralled by the songs and story of the iconic Delia Murphy. A one woman-show by her niece, Carmen Cullen. Carmen is also author of an acclaimed novel, Two Sisters Singing, Liberties Press 2013, loosely based on her aunt’s life.

Delia's songs like Down by the Glenside will be highlighted to create a 1916 Commemoration flavour.

Roll back the years with The Spinning Wheel and other much loved songs, and a dramatised Reading as part of the show. No woman performer made a bigger impact on the Irish entertainment scene than Delia Murphy, now credited with laying the groundwork for the Irish Folk-Revival.

Married to Irish Ambassador Thomas Kiernan, she met the famous and mighty, but retained her identity as a recording artist and performer. Delia liked people with the same openness as herself. In London where she lived as a young married woman and where her husband founded the NUI Club, Delia was in the right milieu, with John McCormac and other renowned Irish artistes to develop her talents. She recorded her first songs in HMV studios, Abbey Road.
